Fetor is impossible to be photographed. But maybe the following pictures will give you an idea, what the people living next to the plant have to deal with. Whether living in the immediate vicinity, constantly struggling with a burdensome fetor people, seeing the buildings of the Res-Drob (Fowl-Res Sp. z.o.o.) plant in a dejected state, outnumbered and shabby to the limits, leaking containers from the slaughterhouses overflowing with animal tissue and being dragged everywhere by crows, are supposed to believe in “nanotechnology to eliminate unpleasant odours”, “biofilters” and “air door curtains” (quotes from the official writings about horrible smell of Res-Drob) when meanness and strict costs reduction can be seen everywhere? The fact that the devices that reduce the stench exists in the plant does not indicate that they are used regularly, it can happen occasionally during inspections, but on a daily basis, people are being regularly poisoned by fetor without any qualms.
It is not enough to write from time to time a few “very scholars” words giving some complicated and nicely sounding phrases, the truth can be seen with the naked eye (and unfortunately smelt with nose)! The factory get it’s profits at the expense of the health of residents.
View of the plant on the railway track side.
The passengers of trains entering the strict center of Rzeszow haunted such a view. We remind you that it is the same factory that claims a 40% increase each year in production (a quote from the Res-Drob website) and is exhibited at the Fairs in Paris or Shanghai. How is it possible in the very centre of Rzeszow “Capital of innovation”?
Sometimes, however, train passengers observe other views. It’s hard to look and remain calm. At the beginning of the early hours of the morning there are sometimes several trucks with live stock. Sometimes a queue is formed, and lorries wait few hours. In addition to horrible smell of live stock, from industrial farming (which is also a matter) the animals stand in the sunlight. One very hot July day of 2016, when the temperature was far above 30 degrees Celsius, five trucks with live animals stood for a few hours under a plant in the sun. Not always the queues are so large, however, it happens that under the Fowl-Res factory we saw at once seven cars loaded with live chickens waiting for slaughter.
Quote from the integrated permit: “Cars with live traffic will be scheduled and their current unloading will be ensured, allowing a maximum of one vehicle awaiting unloading at the west side (along the railway tracks) in order to ensure the continuity of the technological process ”
After the chickens are removed, the cars are washed. Water contaminated with manure is poured around the square, which is covered with heavily destroyed asphalt full of holes and inequalities. The water is all day long and evaporates to the surroundings.
View of the plant from Konopnicka Street.
On the side of Konopnicka Street, the inhabitants of the blocks are rainded with a view of the building fragments of construction and gravel. At the landfill site sometimes children play, it also serves as a place to sit for alcohol drinkers.
View of the plant from Różana Street.
It’s something really outrageous, impossible to just pass by. Inhabitants of the block of flats located on Warszawska street on the 1000-lecia district, can observe such views from their windows and balconies every day! The waste from the poultry slaughter is stored in leaking and bent containers, which are not even cleaned and at times when the plant is not working ate being kept in the open air. They are seated by the birds, which roll out fragments of hen’s waste far beyond the premises of the plant and with a little luck you can “go on it” during walking along the surrounding sidewalk, even on the street Reja on the other side of the railway tracks. Less than 100 meters from this view there is a residential block, and single-family houses less than 50 meters. Residents of these buildings live in a constant microbiologically threat, especially in the warmer season.
Meanwhile, in Amendment number 2 of the permit integrated for Rzeszowski poultry plant Res-Drob Sp. z o.o. 26 May 2015, in section IX. 2.4. “Waste management Conditions” in section 2 we may read that: “Waste will be stored in containers (…) In such a way as to prevent accidental leakage into the environment, ” Meanwhile, dirty containers are open every day outside the working hours of the plant and are” areated “and are being defaced by predating birds.
Another quote from revision number 2 of the integrated permit (Point X. 1.1. Concerning ‘ air protection methods ‘ reads: ‘ Containers for the temporary collection of animal by-products (…) are located in rooms equipped with lockable doors to minimise unpleasant odour. ‘ So what are dirty and contaminated containers doing outside the plant at all? Let’s add that they are here every day. As in the light of these provisions looks like a photo from the newspaper Super News showing the leftovers loaded on the outdoor truck?
What do the integrated Permit records say about this?
Under the integrated permit subsection XII. 2, point 6
